IELTS to CLB: Understand and compare both scores
Part of the process of applying to many of Canada’s immigration programs is to prove your English language ability. In Canada, the ‘Canadian Language Benchmark’ (CLB) is used as a national standard to assess the English language abilities of those immigrating to Canada.
The CLB system categorizes language proficiency from Level 1 to Level 12 and ensures that immigrants can effectively communicate within Canadian society. It’s crucial to have an equivalence between any English assessment test you take, such as the IELTS, and the CLB levels.
But what does this mean if you have taken an IELTS test with a different scoring structure to CLB? As mentioned before, CLB scores range from Level 1 to Level 12, while IELTS scores range from 0 to 9.
Although slightly different, the two scoring systems are compatible with one another and can be aligned using an online “IELTS to CLB” converter. We’ve put together a handy guide which explains how to compare IELTS to CLB using our CLB calculator.
