IELTS is universally accepted by organisations and businesses in Canada as a leading test to measure an individual’s English language proficiency. The test is accepted in 140 countries by over 12,000 organisations including employers, government bodies, educational institutes, and businesses.
Schools, training colleges and universities throughout Canada use IELTS to determine eligibility of applicants. There are two types of IELTS tests available – IELTS General Training and IELTS Academic. Schools and universities in Canada prefer IELTS Academic, as it demonstrates language capabilities in an educational environment. Leading universities in Canada often require a total score of 6.5 and a minimum of 6 per section.
Canada has its own measure of English proficiency called the Canadian Language Benchmark test, which is fully compatible with IELTS. A variety of immigration programs are available for those looking to work or study in Canada. Each program will have its own application requirements, including the ability to demonstrate English language skills.
